Squirrel Monkey and Cotton-top Tamarin Exhibits, Wellington Zoo, February 2013.

This enclosure was previously one large aviary (it extends further to the right), but a small section at left has been seperated off, and now contains the group of Cotton-top Tamarins, who previously shared with the Bolivian Squirrel Monkeys, who occupy the right-hand side, with Agouti. There was previously Sun Conures and a Red-fronted Macaw living here too, but these have been moved out. The garden in the immediate foreground has been mostly removed, making a larger viewing area.

wow that has really changed!! Are the lower panels all windows?

Yea, they have changed it a bit, they are all windows. I wonder if this was more an attempt to limit human/squirrel monkey contact as opposed to improving viewing. The squirrel monkeys are very interested in people and the adults and babies were up by the glass, checking out the visitors. Unfortunately, all photos are as below, as the glass (and my camera lens to a certain degree) were very rain-streaked. The squirrel monkeys also look very cute in the rain, as the fur on their heads goes all spikey. :D

the cottontop tamarins are now in the doll-house enclosure. The separated area to the left of the squirrel monkey cage has a pair of agoutis in it, and there is another pair in the main part of the squirrel monkey cage.
