House Mouse

I found this little guy outside my house in late September. I see them around quite a bit and would like to know what they are.

I would not say it's an Apodemus or a vole :p

I think you will find him in the genus Mus. It could well be a house mouse, but I dont know anything about which species occur in the US.

I would say it's very likely a House Mouse (ssp. domesticus?) so thank you!

I would like a second opinion, however.

House Mouse is the vibe I'm getting, but rodents have never been my thing.

I agree with you but I consider myself lucky to have been able to take this picture as usually the mice around here run at the first sight of people.

Are your houses infested with rats folks? :D

I saw a 'rat' in my back porch once, but it was dark, and I would much rather believe that it is an endangered marsupial. So I will go with that.

The second I read the first line on my email I just knew you posted this nanoboy! I've spotted several Black Rat Snakes around my property so I don't see mice too often but see them every once and a while. I actually used to see them quite a bit before the snakes moved in...
