Old growth redwood forest, Prairie Creek State Park

Only 5% of the former 2 million acres of old growth redwoods in California still stand, but at least they do. These are the tallest trees in the world.

Yes, beautiful, I really need to get out there to do some photography. I have been to the giant Sequoia redwoods, which are stunning, but I need to do the coastal redwoods.

It is a completely different vibe from their cousins in the Sierra. The trees are taller, but much less dense than the massive sequoias. It is a genuine rain forest with lush undergrowth of ferns, mosses, lichens, etc. Truly magical and prehistoric feeling, especially on this trail when it was raining and we hardly encountered any other people.
