West African River Experience

my experience back in 2007 is that they spend most of their time in the pool. I believe the exhibit may have changed since then but as someone else stated they spend day in the pool night on land to graze in wild. at the aq they have a holding pen in the back where the animals are kept. this exhibit was also subject to a Dirty Jobs episode on the discovery channel where mike cleaned the back hippo pens and pool. Jumping Jenny is one of the hippos. I wish they would use a more spongy substance like kids have at play grounds some times, but i think animals would eat it. Also hippos are warm weather animals and this aquarium is in nj which often sees snow.
