They are marvellous animals, aren't they? Zoos seem to need to have marine mammals perform shows. This has always irritated me, and it has militated against this species being more widely kept. A great pity.
I also could be wrong, but I think it's a male. It is a pretty dramatic exhibit and a video similar to this scene features heavily in Alaska's current tourisim campaign.
