The population is increasing, probably the only pheasant species to be doing so, now held by three of the four big zoos, as well as Willowbank, and possibly some others. They are very beautiful birds, and make great display species. Although I dislike them being kept with macaws, Wellington Zoos 'Himalayan' aviary has a much better species mix.
