Exit blocked for new aquarium

April 10, 2012.
The gated area used to be an open doorway from the gift shop to a room with a few fish and frog displays. The opening has been sealed off (there is another entrance from the outside). The room is being transformed into a small (very small) aquarium, which is set to open in autumn 2012.

Did you happen to notice the new amphibian displays across the walkway in the Reptile/Arthropod hall?

Even a couple of amphibian displays can be exciting for an aficionado of Sonoran herptofauna.

Well that is good, because a couple displays is about all it entails. I will try to post a photo in the next couple days.

If you remember the reptile building (just right of the main entrance), there are two rooms. The first room (with mostly rattlesnakes) remains unchanged. The second room has been changed on the right wall and back wall. The left wall, which has the smaller insect displays, remains unchanged as well. The large gila monster case that took up the back wall has been gutted out completely down to the floor and it is now a small walk-in room with a few kid games. The right wall has one small and nicely done rockwork area for canyon frogs. In addition to that there are a couple small and a couple large frog cases that are rather bland. Really no improvement over what was there IMO.
