Arizona Docent

fluid motion

April 14, 2015.
I love these trademark photos of yours, Arizona Docent; they really do convey the beauty of the animals featured.

One question: how do you avoid the picture becoming over-exposed, given the very slow shutter speed you use?

In this case, the canyon was still in shade, so it was dark enough to get a slow shutter speed with a small aperture and low ISO. That is how I do most of them. Sometimes add a polarizing filter in bright light, which darkens the lens even more. My camera will go as low as ISO 50, which helps (some only go down to either 100 or 200). When I was in Miami last summer I bought a neutral density filter, which darkens the lens even more, but I have only used it on a few scenic shots (water motion) and not really for animals. However I could if I needed to.
