Personally, I really like this sort of shot - although I imagine it's not going to be to everyone's taste! I must remember to have a go again myself sometime; probably with the ungulates and felids at Whipsnade. What usually happens though, is that I remember 'after the event'. Having been conditioned to try to obtain a 'sharp' shot most of the time, I often find it difficult to go back the other way, at least without a bit of pre-thought
Yes - it helps if the animal is running repeatedly in a similar spot, to give you time to change settings. In this case he was running in a continuous loop.
