The second half of the American Black Bear Exhibit, easily the worst bear exhibit I have ever seen. They are fundraising for an expansion, but if I am correct in assuming its partially built already it won't be much better.

This is a rather appalling cage and I sometimes question whether a large mammal like a bear would not be better off dead than spending 20+ years in a tiny cage. I realize that it is a controversial remark but the psychological damage must be intense. However awful the Bear Den Zoo's black bear enclosure is, it is a big improvement over the one at Clay Center Zoo in Kansas.
Yes, they are in the process, and as another picture shows it looks like they may have started building it. Still isn't anything great, but at least it has some a climbing structure and dirt. I would compare it to something like the one at zollman zoo in MN.
