Lady Ross's Turaco Exhibit

August 7th, 2010.
Planting stands of bamboo - a simple mistake to make, but capable of causing headaches & expensive damage for decades.Expensive new concrete enclosures have been perforated by bamboo roots & shoots & depending on the variety it can be next to impossible to eradicate. If in doubt, always consult a good horticulturalist to select a manageable non-invasive variety.Bamboo has endless applications in zoos and few plants give such great cover in such short time without any special care, and it is amazingly resistant in urine-sprayed feline enclosures etc. Many enthusiastic gardeners have actually changed house just to lose a garden with rampant bamboo they could not eradicate. It all comes down to being very selective about the variety. You have been warned!
