This zoo has many corn-crib cages that are badly outdated and eye-sores for visitors. The metal is extremely difficult to see through, the roof creates situations where the entire enclosure is shaded thus allowing little sunlight to filter through, and cement floors with little to no natural substrate is disappointing. I have listed the 12 primate species found at the zoo and I think that other than the spider monkeys and siamangs all of them have metal cages that they reside in.
Primates present at the zoo on my 2010 visit: colobus monkey, DeBrazza guenon, blue monkey (one of only about 3 zoos in North America with this species), lion-tailed macaque, mandrill, diana monkey, golden lion tamarin, siamang, black-handed spider monkey, spot-nosed guenon, black-and-white ruffed lemur and Sulawesi crested macaque.
I just visited the zoo in November 2012 and not much has changed. While I can understand the grain silo exhibits due to lack of funds for renovating, I was surprised how few climbing and enrichment structures were near the bottom of the exhibits (mostly just a wooden walking ring near the top). While I know a lot of keepers are hampered in their enrichment options by primate exhibits attempting to appear "natural", you wouldn't think that would be the case here.
