It is somewhat bizarre that the Bronx Zoo is one of the best in North America, with a handful of brilliant, world-class exhibits, and yet they have what is arguably the worst polar bear grotto on the continent. This and the grizzly bear enclosure are crying out for an extensive overhaul.

Oh sadly I'm sure there are worse, but it wouldn't make it to anyone's top lists.
It has some water and the bear has good views (i.e. not an old-fashioned grotto with three walls, like I've seen, drove the bears crazy). Los Angeles Zoo's exhibit was much smaller but their bear is dead and they no longer keep the species, I saw it in 2003.
But of course I agree that it should be replaced. The Bronx has often shown what it is capable of, and I'm sure it would if not for the recession.
