@Otter Lord: Really???? According to ISIS there must be a total of 228 Axis Deer in the San Diego Safari Park (which stays for me the San Diego Wild Animal Park to the end of time). Although I know that there are often mistakes in ISIS - I personally think the number of 142 MALE Axis Deer is wrong - I can hardly believe that there is only one specimen left yet.

There is only one on display for sure. I was on a tour and the keeper told me that they only had one axis deer left. SDWAP's collection is no where what is used to be unfortunately. They don't even have male nilgai right now.
It still sounds strange for me. San Diego Zoo and the Safari Park are reliable ISIS-members by actualizing their datas normally. In this case there must be a huge transport to another zoo (do they not comunicate such things to the public?) or a disease within the last few months (= the time ISIS actualizing its datas).
But I think the keeper would have told you, if things like that happen. Odd....

From what it seems, I think their animals are just dieing of old age. Its 2010, and their great collection was at it's high at least 20 years ago. They may still have these animals off site though, because there are breeding enclosures at SDWAP that are away from the field exhibits.
