Part of Indian Rhinoceros exhibit in Wild Asia. One is lying in the muddy pool to the left. The monorail passes through Wild Asia at the speed of light and with no stops for photos. Therefore it is incredible that I yet managed to take these photos.

That is one fantastic looking Rhino enclosure, to bad you probably only get to see it in a few seconds.

It is basically a stretch of native forest (yes, in New York City!) with an appropriate fence around it. Even the "pool" was simply a low spot that the rhinos degraded (or improved?) into a wallow.

No, @JaxElephant, I didn't mean to demean your comment... only to say how simply this was done and yet it works so well. It is rare that a zoo has the chance to do it!

Okay, I misunderstand your post Zooplantman, I wish more zoos did the same for their Indian Rhinos.

Yeah, I could have explained myself better.

Anyway, this picture shows about 90% of the exhibit. You do get another view of it on the Monorail at the other end. In between, you may glimpse rhinos through the trees

I rather hate exhibits where you can only view them from a vehicle that doesn't stop. You can never have enough time stop and enjoy the exhibits but only to rush by and only get a glimpse of the enclosure.

My comment above says all I want to say. You might find Snowleopard's (bless his memory, although Scott, the man behind 'Snowleopard' is alive and well ) thread since this summer an interesting one, the part where there was a hectic debate on the pros and cons of monorails and trams in zoos.

Yeah, this is great for the rhinos, at least during the warmer months, but is awful from a visitor perspective. The monrail is one of the negatives of the zoo imo.
