White-throated Bee-eater exhibit in World of Birds.
how do they contain these birds? by using a gradient from light to dark as a non-physical barrier?
 
Thank you for the quick reply. I think it's very interesting to see such innovative ways of barrier design. It will also add new dimensions for the visitors when the see the birds without glass or hardwire.

I'm not sure that this can be called innovative any more. It was designed (well, the original version of this space not the current version) in 1972 following lessons learned at the even earlier St. Louis Zoo bird house
 
You got me, something from 1972 isn't innovative anymore. What I tried to say was rather more the innovative views on exhibit design rather than using physical barriers. There are more techniques but they aren't very well presented in Zoo's around the globe. The only other exhibit i know using the light-dark gradient is Antwerp Zoo.
