Congo Map--Gorilla Territory

I apologize for the blurry image.

The words on the map that I keep make out is the red arrow showing where you are in the exhibit and above that in yellow/beige is the public view area. Above that in green in the indoor play space. To the right of that in green are 8 or so bedrooms and to the right of that are two 'outdoor' play spaces before the arrow pointing to the outdoor exhibit. Wowies!


Gorilla Reception

You are looking into a small part of the behind-the-scenes. Wait patiently--gorillas come and go as they wish here. Human visitors are the not only ones with choices in Congo. Gorillas can choose too. Behind-the-scenes in Congo is a complex of gorilla family rooms, quiet bedrooms, nurseries, keeper monitoring areas, etc., all designed to provide the best care.

And this diagram does not show the SECOND large day room for a second troop of gorillas. It is even larger in square footage, but since it is located on the second floor above the public galleries it is not a two-story tall space like the day room shown here. It too has an outdoor caged area in between the interior space and the outdoor exhibit, so animals can go outside on mild winter days without actually going on exhibit. A small portion of the day room is viewable from the Education Center classroom on the second floor.

It's not open to the general public, but is to those attending events. It lies up the road through the huge tall gates (there are also inside stairways to the public exhibit corridor

And, um, where are these huge tall gates? :rolleyes: You would think that after visiting the Bronx Zoo more than 15 times I would be familiar with this general area. I really have no idea where any of this is. I'm sorry! :o

...It is quite hard to read most of the words in the picture...

When you are about to pay the conservation donation at the gate to Congo, you are standing beside a huge palisade wall. But actually those are gates to the road up to the second floor of the building (there is a smaller side gate for people)To the right of here: http://www.zoochat.com/547/bronx-zoo-2010-congo-gorilla-forest-192953/

Events might be a class, a school group, a fund raising event, a sleep-over. It's used for lots of things
