That looks like a white tipped quetzal to me (probably wishful thinking). It is certainly a quetzal though. Violaceous euphonias are finches. It could also be a golden headed quetzal- the head doesn't look super gold but it's not exactly green. I'll let someone who's better at this correct me.
Taken care for 3 species ( Golden-headed, Crested and Resplendent Quetzalts ) and the one on the picture is none of those. From pictures I've seen I would also go for White-tipped quetzal ( almost 100 % sure ). Also 120 % sure its not Euphonia violacea !
I know he does, and I envy him for keeping those species. However, currently, the Dallas World Aquarium has resplendent, golden-headed, and crested. Only golden-headed is on display, and I have a picture (though a bad one) of resplendent in the gallery for DWA.
Sorry guys but it is a White-tipped quetzal which can be seen by the underside of the tail-feathers :
Crested --> tail-feather all white
Golden-headed --> tail-feather uniform black ( NO white )
White-tipped --> black and white tail feathers
Must have some photos of Crested and Golden-headed from Walsrode from the 1980-ties, have to look for them and then I will up-load them.
