Here can be found some info (from 2008) about gelada populations in Europe and how Bronx zoo would sent unrepresented new male to EEP, and would/already recieved 5 new males from Europe
They can even import some wild animals, I think; usually there are no bans on non-human primate imports (except maybe for highly treatened species, or species like gorillas or chimpanzees/bonobos) from their native countries, as it is case with ungulates and elephants, and in most cases, also with birds (veterinary reasons above all).
Why not some 2.6 geladas do not be imported from Ethiopia, for example, if not from Europe.
