The grizzly and polar bear grottoes (and perhaps the sloth bear and tiger/lion pits as well) all opened back in the 1930's and have bascially remained the same for 75 years! However, as many people know the grizzlies and polar bears will receive new exhibits in a few months, and yet nobody seems to know what will be happening to the empty grottoes. Any clues?

Is it really true, that the bears and lions and tigers will get new exhibits?
Because I have visited the zoo on April 25th and was very unpleasantly surprised about these exhibits!
However, on the zoo`s website there is nowhere an inidication about these new enclosures.
I think that the animals very much merit a new environnement.
Great Bear Wilderness (polar bears, grizzly bears, bison) should be opening to the public any day now. However, no one seems to know what is happening to the old bear grottoes.

From what I've heard, although not official, Hudson may be going to Columbus Zoo for there new arctic exhibit "Polar Frontier" which opens in Spring 2010
