Is this a walk-through kookaburra aviary? Where in the zoo is this new exhibit located? Are there any terrestrial species in the enclosure? I ask because all of the trees have wire fencing around them.
This is off to side by sea lions (it used to house lorikeets in the summer). It has kookaburras, golden pheasant, Lord Amherst pheasant, and wallabies.
With the new entrance shifting visitors to a slightly different section of the zoo there is a definite shine in that zone. Kookaburra Korner (spelled "Kookabura" on the zoo's map!) greets visitors, along with decent sea lion and otter exhibits. Arctic Edge will be a wonderful achievement as the old bears pits will be part of ancient history, but the tiny elephant yard and even smaller barn are outdated eyesores in that section of the zoo. The excellent rainforest building is up next and after that the vast majority of the exhibits range from merely adequate to very disappointing. The good news is that Buffalo Zoo has steadily gotten better over the past decade (sea lions, otters, rainforest, Aussie walk-through, entrance, upcoming Arctic Edge) but there is still a long list of improvements that are badly needed at America's 3rd oldest zoo.
