friendly elephant - Feb 2012

This elephant was against a fence off camera left, but as soon as I walked up she came right up to the edge. She immediately urinated and defecated, which is a sign of excitement, and then stood there for ten minutes. She was not at all agressive (no ear flare or trumpeting), but kept lifting up her trunk to me in what appeared to be a friendly greeting. I can only assume I remind her of a current or former keeper. I have never had an experience like this with elephants - it was fantastic. I attached a flash to my camera to fill in the shadows and laid down on the ground for a different perspective and shot several pictures. The whole time I was thinking, Man I really love this elephant!
