The Catskill Game Farm close in 2006 after 73 years. Most of my photos are from the 1990's. I think they are Scimitar Oryx. They had mostly ungulate also some big cats and african wild dogs.

Thats too bad It looked like a cool place to visit.

It was a cool place. The owner want to retire she was 65 at the time and business was down to about 100,000 visitors a season by time it close from a high of half a million in the 1960's. The said it would take between 150,000 to 200,000 visitors annually to make the operation viable. It got a little run down in final years.

My only visit to this collection was in 1984; there was an albino scimitar-horned oryx, the only albino of this species I've ever seen.

Digressing from the scimitar-horned oryx, there were also some so-called Nubian wild ass (presumably not pure bred). Does anybody know what became of this stock when the place closed.

Catskill game farm

I believe Marwell's first two Siberian tigers came from Catskill, and that they were a major producer of hoofstock & cats for several decades.
