I was disappointed in this fairly new exhibit as it is simply a large, black, metal cage that would not look out of place at Howletts in England. Leading up to my arrival at Chahinkapa Zoo I saw a billboard advertising "the only zoo with a great ape in the state of North Dakota" and a local motel had a brochure declaring that "Chahinkapa is the first zoo in the history of the state to exhibit great apes". My attention having been gained I strode purposefully into the zoo to see this once-in-a-lifetime achievement. Gazing upon a single male, hybrid orangutan sitting on grass in a metal cage didn't quite live up to the anticipation.
@snowleopard Its certainly not great but all things considered compared to the rest of the zoo it looks like one of the better exhibits. I mean still super ugly, small, and lacking in hiding places and shade but least it makes decent use of its vertical space...
Edit: After re-reading I feel I should make more clear that I am in no way saying this exhibit is acceptable. Just not as bad as some of the others.
