Sumatran Rhino 1989

Cincinnati's original Sumatran rhino (I forget her name. Prior to Rapunzel. She only lived a few years.)

This is Cincinnati Zoo's original female "Mehato" who was quarantined at LA before moving to Cincinnati in 1989, she died in 1992 possibly from trauma caused by violent courtship with "Ipuh" (who arrived at Cincinnati in 1991).

This is a scan of a slide (transparency) of my image. No doubt a professional scan might produce a better image.

But somehow your explanation of her death doesn't sound right to me. I just don't remember her being introduced to a male at the time. Still, it was a long time ago and I was in the Horticulture Dept. not Mammals

The cause of death was liver disease, but the trauma was believed to be a factor in her death.
