Though the Japanese serow (Capricornis crispus) are no longer kept there, do the Red-crowned cranes (Grus japonensis) still live in this enclosure? Japnese serow and Red-crowned crane sounds like a fantastic and might I add geographically accurate mixed species exhibit!
@UngulateNerd92 No, this area is now the site of the newly-created mixed enclosure for Barbary Macaque and Barbary Sheep (which were previously mixed in a smaller enclosure lower down the hill).
@UngulateNerd92 When I was last there (last summer) it had not long been vacated and was still sat largely untouched - I'm not sure what the long-term plan is.
@Maguari ah thank you. I hope they do something with that space! Personally I would have left the Barbary sheep and Barbary macaques where they were and kept the cranes in that space, and brought in a species of cervid or caprine native to Eastern Asia.
@UngulateNerd92 The previous sheep+macaque enclosure will for now house Asian caprids, but is the location of a completely new aquarium for which construction should commence in a few years.
