Cinzoo man, it's nice that you like and defend your hometown zoo, but like gerenuk mentioned above, people are entitled to their own opinion. It's your opinion that that this is a great exhibit but people may disagree and that is it. You don't have to get worked up about it.

Certainly compared to Chester or Woodland Park Zoo this exhibit lacks climbing opportunities. Chester -- among others -- has shown us what can be possible for orangs and what they can do given the opportunity.

I have to agree with you Zooplantman on Chesters exhibit, you can see the orangs from quite a distance when they're at the top of the main Realm Of The Red Ape. It really is a sight to behold and from what I've seen, it really is a contender for best orangutan exhibit in the world. (Except the one in Singapore, but that's actually in a rainforest!)
Cinzooman you really should learn to respect others opinions, I love my local zoos but God do they have flaws! I don't get all upset when people comment on poor exhibits or notice flaws that I've overlooked. You seem to be missing the point of what this site is about if that's your attitude, we're supposed to be able to discuss difference of opinions!
No offence meant. :)

None taken, but this isn't a bad exhibit.

From what I can gather it's for an elderly and solitary orangutan, if that's the case then it isn't a bad exhibit. If on the other hand it was for a couple of younger specimens then it wouldn't be anywhere near decent! As others have commented on this and many other orang exhibits, it has far too much floor space and not enough vertical area.

I think Lana is old. Hopefully Kudu could come in and answer that question.

I still can't believe your saying such awful things about this exhibit, did I say live trees? Did I? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO. And for the Apenheul's exhibit, good for them, is it the Cincy zoo's? again no. I would rate this the 3rd greatest exhibit at the zoo and there are more great exhibits than not

Well, you said there were more TREES and I'm sorry but I took that to mean live trees. Maybe that was my mistake but I never claimed that there were any. I asked YOU whether or not there were. However, I have looked at the photos and seen no trees but only futile attempts at climbing structures.

The fact that it is an elder orangutan might make the situation better but certainly not the exhibit itself. And also, aren't there gibbons in this exhibit as well? Surely these are even more arboreal the orangutans?

Don't get me wrong I am not on a bashing mission of Cincinnati Zoo (despite what some may think). It just annoys me to see an otherwise good exhibit with loads of money posted into it, fail on such a basic level as climbing structures.

@Cinzoo man: My advice to you would be to stop embarrassing yourself. Here we are simply trying to have a calm debate about the lack of climbing structures in an exhibit and you get all worked up using emotional arguments like a 10-year old and posting links to yet another one of your blurry zoo-photos (like in this thread). Please don't turn into the next Fossa Dude.

If I were you I would listen to @mstickmanp's advice:

I've said that before, pretty sure that's why you keep getting flack off other members. This isn't a personal attack, this is some constructive criticism. :)

Once again the lighting was bad and the gibbons are indoors because a baby was born last year and also one escaped in 2008 and bit a visitor and the buff-cheeked gibbons moved to Gibbon Islands

That the lighting was bad is no excuse. If the lighting is too bad to take a good picture there are two things you can do: 1) Don't upload a bad picture! or 2) Get a proper camera that can deal with conditions like that if you want to take that kind of photos. That's what I did and I can highly recommend it.

ZooChat has had major problems with overloading the servers because of crappy and repetitive photos being uploaded. Personally, many of my hand-picked, edited photos with detailed descriptions got deleted.

If I were you, I would stop using my cell phone for tricky photos and uploading poor quality shots. Many of us here take pride in our photos and share only the best ones, in part to avoid overloading the servers.

1. I did 2. why would I get not use a cell phone with a 5.0 megapixel camera
3. the lighting is orangish and I can perfectly see whats in all my photos, especially the gibbon indoor exhibit one.
