Indoor exhibits in the famous Cat House.
There are no documented instances of a black margay - that photo is mislabelled. As for what type of pampas cat, that species division has been disproven by furthere study. There is only one species of pampas cat, not three.

Regarding the title of the photo, what made the Cincinnati cat house famous?

Famous because at one time it held the largest variety of wild cats at any zoo in the world. (Of course the new night hunters only has a few felids and the distinction of best cat collection has been taken up by the relatively new facility Le Parc Des Felins).

Do you have a reference for that please?

I’m not doubting you, I’d just like to find out more details of pampas cat taxonomy.

See the section titled taxonomic notes. These findings are also quoted in the recent Special Issue of Cat News on cats of the world (published by IUCN Cat Specialist Group) as well as Jim Sanderson's brand new book Small Wild Cats: The Animal Answer Guide.

Leopardus colocolo (Pampas Cat, Chilean Pampa Cat)
