Depend on just how precise you want to be. Yes, Sabu and Jati are Malayan Elephants. They were both captured on the Malayan peninsula, but if we're speaking on subspecies terms, sometimes the Malayan subspecies (E.m.hirsutus) is considered a synonym of the mainland, or Indian, subspecies (E.m.indicus). It all depends on what studies you believe.
Marge Schott and her foundation have done a lot to fund the zoo and it's projects, including this exhibit and the future African exhibit. She even donated one of the zoo's elephants, Schottzie, to the zoo.
