Jun. 2013 - Africa - Vulture Island

It was microscopically improved. I've heard from a construction worker that there will be 2 birds, an intern-1, and a bird keeper-3 vultures on this island. I, another horticulture worker, and other workers find the idea idiotic and depressing.

Is that log and little island really the entire exhibit? It is worse than a parrot on a stick display!

The keeper who is training them is not happy about it at all with the situation. Hopefully they won't be afraid to escape from it on by going on the rock path that is slightly underwater. The zoo might have a year until it opens and I hope that some people will protest. Well it's not like the typical visitor cares. I'm in kind of deep with the landscapers and workers so I'll try as best as I can.

Do you think that the zoo is separating them because they might not interact well with the crowned cranes and marabou storks?

They may as well have animatronic vultures. They are just using live animals as props.

Blijdorp also mixes storks, cranes and vultures.

So wait, are the vultures going on exhibit today, or next year?

Since the African Plains isn't even finished and the birds aren't trained yet I could see them going on next year. But everybody I've talked to about them talks like they're going on pretty soon.

The saddest thing about this is that they aren't either injured or born in captivity. They were caught in the wild relatively recently.

How horrible!

What species?
