It was microscopically improved. I've heard from a construction worker that there will be 2 birds, an intern-1, and a bird keeper-3 vultures on this island. I, another horticulture worker, and other workers find the idea idiotic and depressing.
Yes but usually zoos still provide them with a either spacious exhibit or give them the freedom to fly while these birds won't be used to staying on a 10 ft. long island.
Well many exotics I suppose. But many of the zoos in my area have a lot of native species of birds of prey and they're all rescues. And I believe almost all Bald Eagles are rescues. At least in the United States.
the island and "tree" are a waste of resources. a lot of Zoos display vultures mixed with hoof stock. they could have saved money, water, building materials, design costs and labor, gaining an extra couple hundred square feet, as well. if they were smart, they could have added another viewing area with glass barriers on the water's edge to see the animals drinking, etc. saving a lot of money and gain some crucial square footage. from the photos on here and the web, this complex seems to ge a waste of space. catering to the visitors and amenities, rather than the animals. I have no faith that the hippo exhibit will be great. they're already running low on space, and they want to add painted dogs, crocs and hippo? best of luck to them. they should just let Toledo keep doing their thing with their hippos. better yet, take the hippo and croc space and finally make a good reptile house/exhibit for african species. save a ton of money and have an exhibit open year-round rather than for six months while the hippos are locked away.
- I doubt that as the entire site is 8 acres and the last phase will not be 1/80th of the site. You should use google maps area calculator to fins the area of a place. Google Maps Area Calculator Tool
