I wonder what inspired the zoo in 1951 to make a temple-themed exhibit.

Maybe they said, "Hey, India is close enough and they have temples, maybe some even flooded! Let's make a Chinese Alligator exhibit designed like that!"

"But sir, we don't have any Asian turtles available that are small enough to fit in such a brilliant exhibit."

"Oh, that's okay. We'll just use North American turtles instead!"

"Wow, sir, that sounds like a completely *amazing and mind blowing idea! It's sure to be questioned by no one ever!"

Okay, I really need to go to sleep now that I'm coming up with stuff like that!

I very much highly doubt that the exact same species were in here for over 60 years. The turtles were just added a couple of years ago.
