Transvaal Lion

Africa!- Transvaal Lion. July 11, 2013. This is the new male named John from the Smithsonian National Zoo. He is getting more used to his enclosure (which isn't that much larger than his old one in D.C.) but I noticed that he passes alone the same, well worn trail in his enclosure.

Cincinnati's exhibit in about 11,200 sq. ft. The one at the National Zoo is 13,190 sq. ft.

I love my home town zoo but do understand that the new lion exhibit is a wasted space

Well I think it was finally time for the zoo to finally have lions that are able to breed. They needed to make the exhibit smaller so they could make room for the other animals. However, the original plan (that didn't include lions) was much better.

That is the lamest excuse I've ever read. So lets bring in new animals in minimum sized enclosures. Awesome. Obviously this Zoo is all about quantity over quality. can't wait to see the crowded savanna. what a joke.

Okay sorry... It's an average sized exhibit. As of now it only contains one lion. It's the best lion exhibit I've seen. I also said they needed to make it smaller because otherwise if it wasn't, there would be a risk having very small hippo and wild dog exhibits.

I'm from the UK, never likely to visit Cincinnati and that is the opinion that I've formed from various reviews and the many photos on ZooChat. A lot of their enclosures are smaller than anything deemed acceptable, this even applies to some of the recent enclosures in Night Hunters. The Savannah may also fail in the same areas based on the latest batches of pictures.

This is from the other side of the pond and only based on pictures though, hope nobody takes too much offence!
