Walter has been with the zoo for a few years but the purpose of his presence at the zoo was to be an outreach animal, only walking around the zoo for designated times. After Harapan left the zoo, something had to take his place. There have been rumors of a giant anteater filling in the habitat and there apparently is one in quarantine, but that plan was scrapped when there was a new plan to bring in a tapir from the Sedgwick County Zoo. Soon after this was made, it was announced that the tapir would not be transferred to the zoo, so it was decided that they would finally give Walter his own exhibit.
