American Black Bear Cage

Aug. 11th, 2014.
What you see is what you get with this photo and the cage is perhaps 4 times longer than the inhabitant with the bricks on the right-hand side representing the small holding quarters. I only uploaded 20 photos of the Clay Center Zoo (from my 20 day/65 zoo road trip) because that is literally the entire zoo! It is rather distressing to consider the fact that in a nation with so many great zoos and countless lush, natural-looking bear exhibits that this poor bastard is stuck in an antiquated cage.

It is appalling and another example of the importance of legislation in how animals are kept in captivity. This should be illegal.

What will visitors take away from this experience of seeing a highly intelligent animal in what amounts to a second rate aviary I wonder? That you can keep a bear at home in the garden as long as it has a run and a shelter? Because this is what it looks like to me.

I may have to stop looking at your photos as this is the second appalling black bear exhibit photo I have seen today!
