Northern Trek - American Black Bear Exhibit

July 27th, 2010.
On my visit in the summer of 2010 the zoo had 6 species of bear (American black, grizzly, polar, sun, sloth and spectacled) and while that was amazing to see at the same time none of the exhibits were modern or spacious enough for the pacing bruins. There were naturalistic elements to all of the grottoes, but the sheer dominance of rock-work meant that most of the habitats were similar to traditional bear pits. (The enclosures are still not as awful as the "Primate, Cat & Aquatics" building located in the corner of the large zoo.)

Completely agree with you Snowleopard and its for this reason that I hope they focus next on construction of a primate forest featuring african apes, old world monkeys and lemurs.Would also like to see a pygmy hippo included in this.
