Northern Trek - Wolf Wilderness - Wolf/Beaver Exhibit

July 27th, 2010.
That is a beautiful exhibit. Do they actually have wolves and beavers together? (If so, I hope the beavers never get out of the water).

It is a gorgeous exhibit, and yet another outstanding wolf habitat in an American zoo. The beavers and wolves are in the same enclosure, and I'm not sure how the beavers survive.:) I think that the edge of the riverbank is just high enough to deter the wolves from reaching the rodents, and also the beavers are wily enough to realize that there is a pack of gray wolves within the area.

That is a terrible idea to keep beavers and wolves together. Beavers are a common prey for wolves. They might as well put deer in the enclosure.

This exhibit opened in 1997 and now that it is 15 years old I'm fairly certain that a wolf has never managed to eat a beaver.

Not actually true, although its not a common occurence we had been told that that indeed a beaver has been preyed upon by the wolves.

Its a beautiful concept and rarely is such attention given to beavers, although the wolves being exhibited with them does raise a bit of concern for me.
