Historic Monkey Mountain - Colobus Monkey/Klipspringer/Rock Hyrax Exhibit

July 27th, 2010.
As a kid I remember this Island being inhabited by 20 to 30 Rhesus monkeys. But these days there is a small troop of Colobus monkeys that sit bored out of there minds on this concrete slab.It was so refreshing seeing an active troop at the Columbus Zoo foraging and swinging through there lush african forest exhibit.

And how do you know that they are bored out of their minds? Everytime I go by Monkey Island they are always pretty active. The only time they aren't is in the middle of a scorching hot summer day like in this photo. Then pretty much no animals are active.

My only problems with this enclosure is a need for natural substate and much more climbing structures for the primates. I'm sure about the size since I haven't really seen the exhibit in person but other than that I think it is a decent exhibit for all of its residents.

Although it has been the hottest summer in Cleveland since 1910, I also think thats when Monkey Island would have been viewed as a great exhibit for these primates.I would like it to not be demolished because of its historic value. They should just turn it into a landmark and include the colobus in the new primate exhibit.
