Bat Exhibit

This is the Asia Quest bat exhibit. The exhibit is very long, about forty feet. It\'s not outside but the skylights above provide plenty of light. We currently house ten Malayan Flying Fox (Pteropus Vampyrus) and four Golden Mantled Flying Fox (Pteropus Pumilis). They are all female and I think they are all from Lubee.

Is the floor of the bat exhibit all sawdust/tiny wood chips?

There appears to be a bench in there to sit on - is this a walkthrough bat exhibit?

I was there this summer, and the huge fruit bats are behind glass and don't interact with visitors. The exhibit has an interesting design, as it's not as dark and "cave-like" as the vast majority of bat habitats in zoos worldwide. The two benches and potted plants, plus the wood lattice on the ceiling, make it appear to be some type of Asian garden.

Yes the sawdust on the floor is just for easy clean up. I have no idea why the bench is in there, and it's not walk through. It's not a spectacular exhibit, I just think it's brighter (Literally) than most bat exhibits.
