Bodhi in South Side Yard

For a four year old asian elephant, he's maturing pretty fast. I don't even think National Zoo's 8 Year Old Calf Kandula has visible tusks at all yet?

Bodhi is the youngest elephant to go into musth on record. Normally males go into musth and grow tusks in the their early teens, Bodhi started when he was three. We think how early it starts is genetic because his dad started musth when he was six.

So is he separated from the females?

Yes he has been away from the adult since he was a little over three. We are hoping that as soon as a lot of zoos are finished with their exhibits he will go to a zoo with only females. I hope he goes to LA, DC, or Denver.

I doubt that he would come to LA, specially with all the problems we are having. I think DC or Denver would be great homes for him.
