Migratory Songbird Aviary

This is the main building in our 8,000 square foot Migratory Songbird Aviary. This aviary serves as a rehabilitation facility to native birds and as a tribute to Rachel Carson. While the number of birds fluctuates due to deaths, releases, births, and acquisitions there are normally forty species and two hundred specimens.

What's inside that cabin? Do the birds have access to any type of holding area or do they all handle the weather fine? I'm curious to know more about this exhibit because I'm working on designing something similar for a class that I'm taking, although on a much smaller scale (about 1400ft2). Any info you have about it would be greatly appreciated.

Between October and March we give the birds access to one part of the cabin for warmth and cover. Although all the birds can handle the weather we allow them access to the cabin as well as place heaters and "bird boxes" throughout the exhibit. The other parts of the cabin are for birds in quarantine and birds that are being "prepped" to go on exhibit.
