This is Moshi, a visiting African (elephant not people, I've said that a few times and people glare at me!) from Cleveland. She is 32 years old. So far they have only had access to the South Side Yard which is about 8,000 square feet. We are working with them to get them to the 11,000 square foot Community Room and the 80,000 square foot North Yard.
I miss this elephant so much! She is extremely independent from the other two Africans and always keeps her distance from Jo, the matriarch. Jo is also the reason Moshi does not have any hair on her tail.
Thank you so much for posting this picture!
The main Asian Elephant yard isn't like this. It's really quite good for an Asian Elephant exhibit. This yard is usually just used for their 7-year old young bull, Bodhi, when the Africans weren't here. This yard and the Black Rhinoceros yards are just the left overs from the old Pachyderm Building and Predator/Prey Complex. Once the African Savannah opens or is close to opening the Black Rhinoceroses will be removed and these exhibits will be renovated to better flow with the Asia Quest theme and be more modern for either the young bulls and Indian Rhinoceroses or an extended space for just the elephants.
