Columbus Zoo - Siberian Tiger Exhibit

July 2008. First class tiger enclosure, complete with a deep pool.
You know when I first saw the exhibit through the windows, I wasn't that impressed. But then I turned the corner outside and saw the whole exhibit and quickly changed my mind! I found a few of Columbus Zoo's exhibit could be misleading on its actual size depending on the angle. I'm really curious how far back the Polar Back and Brown Bear exhibits actually go.

The last time I was at Colombus Zoo (I have been there twice) was in 2001. They did not have a nice tiger exhibit like this back then. Looks like I need to go back to Columbus some day.

As for good tiger exhibits, there are a lot as they seem to get better exhibits in general than leopards or some other big cats.

Some good ones include:

Busch Gardens (the old Claw Island, not the new one, which based on photos actually seems to be not quite as good).

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (especially when there is snow).

Bronx Zoo (with two - malayans on the monorail and siberians in the new Tiger Mountain, which I am dying to see in person).

Minnesota Zoo (the gold standard for tigers).

Fort Worth Zoo (innovative canyon design to separate malayans from white indians).

San Diego Safari Park (I still like the massive old exhibit, but it will be interesting to see what they do with the upcoming set of three).

Houston Zoo (Not groundbreaking, but I like the long waterfront viewing with no barriers and being at eye level instead of looking down).

I think id prefer it without all the fake rock, id much rather see the fencing then the ugly rock wall at the back.

From what i saw, the exhibit didnt have a deep pool at all

i dont know why it posted twice
As has been mentioned, that's the shallow pool near viewing window. The deeper pool can be seen (barely) in this picture. Specifically, if you look immediately above and to the left of the sleeping tigers, you can see one end of the pool. it extends all the way to the left as well. I have a picture of one of the tigers swimming in it; I'll see if I can find it and post it later today.
