Columbus Zoo - Orangutan Exhibit

July 2008.
I do not know how you can justify spending all that money on a large seasonal exhibit in Ohio. Especially one with so many high-profile and popular residents.

Because the visitation is mostly seasonal. The "return on investment" of a winter attraction would be a greater risk and potentially a greater financial liability.

They should add some trees while the orangutans are off exhibit.

They wouldn't last a week given the lay out of the exhibit (at least given what I see in this photo).
Only small trees could fit on those terraces and the orangs would destroy them from above. Only larger trees could withstand the animals and there is no place with sufficient space for the rootball... and it appears they might create an escape opportunity

They should have made this into a asian black bear exhibit or malayan tapir exhibit if they flatened the ground it would be cool to see tapirs in the water while on the boat ride.

It would have been cool if Malayan Tapirs were included in the Islands project but hopefully one of the South American species are exhibited when they get to their South American Zone.
