I like my exhibits natural, so I am not a fan of these new designs with abandoned Land Rovers or in this case small planes.
But as I learned recently, a small plane left out in nature is not inconceivable. When I did the tram tour two weeks ago at Shark Valley in Everglades National Park, there was this crash-landed plane that was still waiting for paperwork to be removed. (Thankfully the two occupants were ok).
I'm in the same line of thinking. The plane does provide opportunities for kids to walk in and "start the engine" which then provides noise which I wasn't a fan of. I also went in the cockpit to get this photo because it looked so cool, so it isn't only for kids! It also provides those close up viewing opportunities. Overall I think it takes up too much area in the exhibit but it is still pretty cool.
The lions seem to enjoy it. In reference to your photo, my favorite "zoo photos" are those that feature the animal and the guests enjoying the exhibit. This is a nicely done photograph. Is the remainder of the exhibit more natural?
