I'd heard that Columbus Zoo built up that sandy ridgeline so that the hill now creates a more enticing and pleasing backdrop for visitors to gaze at. This massive addition to what was already a superb zoo has shades of San Diego Zoo's Safari Park and some of the photos are reminiscent of that California facility.

Well I finally measured it and this savanna alone comes out to be almost exactly 11 acres. Judging from Google Earth, the animals are not able to cross about 40% of the land shown, that's how well the fence is hidden.
