Beautiful Sandhill Crane

Sandhill Crane in July 2011
Beautiful indeed. In the winter, they flock in the hundreds (thousands?) in southeast Arizona. A nature guide friend of mine took me down to the viewing area near Tombstone a few years ago - quite a sight.

However, they are kind of far away so hard to get a good photo. The only good photo I have of them in the wild was of a pair of two at a Nature Conservancy preserve near Orlando, Florida.

In the wild, I've only seen them in Florida while I was golfing. There were two adult cranes and about 3 chicks that were absolutely adorable. They were so yellow, puffy, and they hopped up and down as they walked.I love this exhibit in Beardsley. The cranes have a lot of space in this exhibit, so it would be nice to see a bunch of baby cranes exploring this exhibit.
