Face to Face with a Prairie Dog

Prairie Dog in July 2011
Unfortunately, I have not seen the "holding area" in the New World Tropics Building. However, I have been on a tour of the Rainforest Building before it opened. It was nice because the animals were active and there weren't guests everywhere.
Why, is there any secrets I should know about in the holding area?:D

Oh, no, unfortunately not . I just asked because you, being the only member besides me who visits the Beardsley Zoo, seem to know much more about it, so I figured you must've either worked there or volunteer there. Do you?

Anyway, when I went in there, I saw these small cages (literally cages, like cages for large dogs, which is why I said "holding" area :p) for a chinchilla, long-eared owl, two boa constrictors, some tortoise species, emperor scorpions, Madagascar hissing cockroaches (I actually heard them hiss as well! :)), and a variety of other reptiles. I also went down to the basement to see where they stored the frozen rats and fish (yayyy ), and saw the animals' diets listed on a chart. It was a great experience.

Ohhh, that! I though you were referring to a holding area for animals like ocelots and monkeys in the Rainforest Building. Silly me.
Yes, I've seen that area before (sorry to spoil your fun:D). I just refer to it as the place where the Education Department animals are kept, like the animals you mentioned, ferrets, an owl, and more. And yes, being in the basement and looking at the animals food (one-day old mice anyone?) is always fun. In fact, I once went into the kitchen to help prepare enrichment for Joaquin, the Andean Bear. Who doesn't love squeezing fish heads into bamboo stalks?

So I imagine that you do work there? ;)

I am extremely sorry to ask; this isn't very like me to poke around other people's business (besides we're on a public site- now I feel terrible asking this :(); I tried to message you the other day (you've always been on of my favorite members, so I thought I'd just chat with you for a bit), but it wouldn't go through. Have you decided not to receive PMs?

I actually decided not to receive PMs when I first got on the site. Sorry!:o Don't feel terrible! There are far worse things one could do on this site!

Phew, thanks. :o I was just a bit uncomfortable asking. I mean who am I to ask you about your decisions? I only went through with posting this because I felt you were a very mature member who I knew wouldn't, erm, overreact? (Not quite the word I'm looking for...)

I just wanted to get to know you a little better is all. :)
