What you are doing is called anthropomorphism and is actually looked down upon in the biology world. Putting human characteristics on an animal actually degrades the animal. Appreciate the animal for what it is. Compare then to us yes, it is a great way to understand your own nature, but remember they are animals. Now if you are talking about the great apes, that's a different matter. Anthropomorphism there might (note I said *might*) be acceptable.
While we are not obsessed with animal names we do feel it is nice when a zoo provides the name and other characteristic information about a particular animal.It would be nice if more zoos would do this.
