Chimpanzee Exhibit Detail

This appears to be a large, lush exhibit that is somewhat surprisingly set on a sloping hill. I wonder how many of those trees are accessible by the chimps?

Some were originally accessible, but after a chimp used the trees to escape and was then shot dead by a Dallas police officer, I believe many of the larger trees are hotwired or have non-climbable metal sheathing. But you can see from the photo that at least one major tree is still accessible--note the vine leading into the branches. Also not e the poor condition of the tree--the inevitable price to pay for allowing chimps' access. Dallas has had very poor luck with great ape escapes--you my recall the terrible circumstance of the gorilla who leaped out and injured visitors before being shot dead a few years ago
